Coming off the success of "Earned It," and its 50 Shades Of Grey assisted popularity, Canadian R&B (or PBR&B as critics have dubbed it) singer The Weeknd has just released the cinematic music video for the new track "The Hills."

This slow, dark, and atmospheric jam shows The Weeknd revisiting the gritty R&B sound that kickstarted his career, and a shift away from the recent movie soundtrack and Ariana Grande collaborating pop music his hardcore fans have been questioning.

It begins, ironically enough, with the jarring low pitch sound popularized by recent action movie trailers. From there the song crawls and growls forward, with The Weeknd switching between his signature falsetto and a tired / dazed lower register. The video has a similar dirty feel, with shadows enveloping The Weeknd's face for most of the video's duration. This new track will most likely please his long time followers, but won't necessarily reach the same audience as his recent commercial endeavors, for better or worse.
