Veteran singer-songwriter Frank Turner is no stranger to festivals, so his appearance at this year's Governors Ball was a well-oiled machine of high-energy brilliance.

Pulling mostly from his latest album, Tape Deck Heart, Turner's set was full of heartfelt ballads and singalong anthems. Playing a successful festival set is no easy feat, but coming out swinging is a good way to start. His band, The Sleeping Souls, rocked out furiously from the get-go, and the crowd's energy rose to match. Love Ire & Song standout "Photosynthesis" came early as well, bolstering Frank's hold on the audience.

He talked up the crowd between songs, making sure to emphasize that we were all friends now. Although he played some breakup songs from Tape Deck Heart -- the excellent "Plain Sailing Weather" and "Recovery" among them -- the power of his music was cathartic and brought everyone a bit closer together.
