Australian R&B songstress Vanessa Elisha has just released her new track, "Ocean." Stream the single above.
Right now we're seeing a pretty big influx of artists trying out the indie R&B scene, but with "Ocean," Vanessa cements her own place in the movement, in large part due to her vocals. Her voice differs from those of her peers; whereas Jhené Aiko favors an angelic, whispery tone and Banks utilizes a controlled deep vocal, Vanessa balances both, singing with a slight nasal tone and lingering on her lyrics. The results are breathy, yet strong vocals that give "Ocean" a sense of urgency and vulnerability. In addition, L.A. based producer J-Louis has layered the track with atmospheric, lethargic beats that make it the type of jam you can play over lazy summer bonfires.
