First Look: Don Cheadle as Miles Davis Sporting Trumpet & Iconic Jheri-Curl

Seasoned actor and producer Don Cheadle will be making his directorial debut with the upcoming independent Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead. With Cheadle playing the lead role, the film will focus on the life of the iconic Miles Davis, although, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cheadle says he is trying to reject the "episodic and event-oriented" elements of traditional biopics in order to create a movie that Miles himself would want to star in.

Well, the construction of the movie is the parallel story of Miles in 1979 at the end of...the five-year stretch of time when he wasn’t playing and performing and recording, juxtaposed against the 10-year period where he was with Francis Taylor Davis, who, at the time, was the love of his life and his muse.

In the process of making the film, Cheadle -- who also co-wrote the project -- felt that crowdfunding was the only logical way to produce what he calls a "social experience." With less than 48 hours until the deadline, the film is less than $30,000 away from its $325,000 goal on Indiegogo. Check out Cheadle below in a short documentary about the film's contributors, the soundtrack, and what cool prizes you can win by participating in the creative process.
