"Fetty Wap" - Fetty Wap [Official Full Album Stream + Zumic Review]

Yaaaaaah baby! After blazing the summer of 2015 with back-to-back-to-back hits "Trap Queen," "679," and "My Way," New Jersey's own Fetty Wap has finally released his long awaited self-titled debut album.

The Paterson MC has a style similar to southern rappers such as Future, Young Thug, and Rich Homie Quan. In his Power 105.1 Interview with Angie Martinez, he stated:

Most of my family is from the south. My cousins, they all listen to Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, all trap music, Lil Boosie, at the time Slim Thug, they listen to music like that, Project Pat, Three 6 Mafia, Juicy J... I didn't listen to no up-North rappers.

That's pretty rare for a Jersey rap artist, but Fetty Wap isn't you're average rapper. He doesn't even categorize his music as hip hop music. He calls his sound "Fetty Wap music."

Even though Fetty is one of the biggest artists in rap right now, the album does not feature any major artists or any big name producers. Rappers M80 and Montana Bucks (aka Monty) are the only guests on the record. Childhood friend Monty appears on eight out of the 20 songs on the deluxe edition of the album. Talk about loyalty!

A majority of the album's tracks appeared on two Fetty Wap mixtapes: Two Face: Fetty Wap or Zovier and Two Face: Fetty Way or Zovier 2, both released earlier this year. Between the two projects, 11 of the self-titled album's songs were already debuted to the public.

Fetty Wap takes you on a ride through anthemic, lively production with trap influence, Fetty's electric vocals, and melodic verses regarding money, wealth, drugs, a dash of romance, and putting on for the Remy Boyz team. While the lyrics are pretty monotonous, centering around those themes for nearly EVERY song, his sound is pretty undeniable. My favorites include "RGF Island," "How We Do Things," "Wateva," "Rewind," "For My Team," as well as the hits "Trap Queen" and "679."

Produced by Nate Rhoads, "Rewind" gives the world a taste of Fetty's true romantic side as he wishes to win back the woman he loves from her new lover. The track is a straight-up R&B record with smooth, elegant production and features a verse from Monty. In "For My Team," Fetty Wap sings about how his quick rise to the top feels like a dream. He sings in the hook:

Have you ever had a dream so real
That you felt the life you live was fake
And everything that you've encountered
Was the upgrade you've been needin'?

A refreshing trait of Fetty Wap is his humility and loyalty to his state. In his Power 105.1 Breakfast Club interview, he gave some good news to the rising Jersey artists. He stated, "If you're from Jersey, you don't gotta pay me nothin' for a feature. I got you." Fetty is definitely hip hop's Rookie of the Year and while he's still fresh in the game, we can't wait to see what he's got in store for us.
