Rappers often reference celebrities, athletes or other musicians in their songs in order to invite comparisons -- "Larry Bird," "The Black Brad Pitt" and "Tom Ford" all spring to mind -- but rarely does the star in question respond, let alone contribute to the song. That's exactly what's happening in this new remix of A$AP Ferg's "Shabba," though, as the song's namesake (Jamaican dancehall legend Shabba Ranks), shows up to kick off this wild track.
A$AP Rocky's verse from the original song has been stricken, and Ferg even offers up a new verse, which contains an amazing Yeezus reference. But his greatest accomplishment was securing a verse from the 47-year-old Ranks, who spends most of his verse (fittingly) saying his own name and rapping about how awesome he is.
Migos' Quavo and Takeoff, and Busta Rhymes also turn out great verses, allowing the "Shabba" remix to unseat the "Work" remix as Ferg's best posse cut (sorry French Montana, but it takes more than tallying how many Chevy Tahoes can fit on a girl's ass to make a passable guest spot). If anything, this remix leaves us expecting many, many more great things from A$AP Ferg's still-budding career.
