This past year, a group of scientists invited various artists such as Bat For Lashes, Goldie, and Ghostpoet to their lab to help them create a project on how the human anatomy can inspire musical creativity. The album will be called Body Of Songs and it will feature musicians recording songs inspired by what they learned. The first single from the album, "Skin Song," by Bat For Lashes, the stage name for British songstress Natasha Kahn, is available for streaming above.

This song does not take a scientific route, rather Kahn uses the skin as a metaphor to tell the story of her life. It's a delicate and beautiful track, with spacey, dreamy synths, and gorgeous, hushed vocals.

The creators of this project stated on YouTube:

Guided by medical experts including pathologists, neurologists, stem cell scientists, patients at varying stages of illness and confronting the organs themselves, the artists have begun to understand why a chosen organ works and fails. Building on this and their own emotional history and feelings, each artist has created a song.

A video teaser was recently released, explaining a bit about the concept and showing Kahn, Goldie, and Ghostpoet working with scientists and even getting tests run on them. You can watch it below and expect the album to be released in 2015. There's more information about Body of Songs on its website.
