Skrillex and Diplo both have massive solo careers, but lately most of their energy has been put into a collaborative project called Jack Ü. Fusing styles from both producers, the project has garnered tons of attention in the past year.
Yesterday the duo begun a 24-hour DJ marathon which would later be shut down by police, but no one could stop them from surprising the world with their full-length album. With features from 2 Chainz, AlunaGeorge, Missy Elliott and even Justin Bieber, the album doesn't feature any instrumental tracks. That pop sensibility is very prominent throughout the LP.
Guests do a nice job of laying hooks and verses down atop Skrillex and Diplo's super-wonky beats. Elements of Jamaican music, Diplo's forte, are notable on "Jungle Bae," "Febreeze," and "Holla Out," while "Take Ü There," "Where Are Ü Now," and "Mind" align closer with current EDM trends.
The 10 tracks are absolutely littered with rich sounds from Jack Ü, proving that they are very much still at the top of their game. Very few artists in the electronic music scene have such an eclectic range as these guys do, and it goes a long way toward creating an album of jaw-dropping bangers. The club wouldn't be the same without Diplo and Skrillex, and now you can throw those ID tracks on at your own leisure.
