The Guardian recently posted a disturbing video with Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) to demonstrate the procedure of force feeding detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Warning: some viewers may find these images distressing.

YouTube Description:

As Ramadan begins, more than 100 hunger-strikers in Guantánamo Bay continue their protest. More than 40 of them are being force-fed. A leaked document sets out the military instructions, or standard operating procedure, for force-feeding detainees. In this four-minute film made by Human Rights organisation Reprieve and Bafta award-winning director Asif Kapadia, US actor and rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), experiences the procedure.

It's a delicate subject.

The United States is at war with terrorist organizations that attack innocent civilians and operate in the shadows of international politics; the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba are prisoners of war. The video above highlights the debate over the definition of "torture" that has been a subject of debate for over 5 years going back to the presidency of George W. Bush.

Is this the price of maintaining peace in the USA? How long will it be before we can move past these awful practices?
