As Foxygen have made more headlines this year for onstage turmoil than their actual music, it should not surprise you to hear that two band members have started solo projects. Guitarist Jonathan Rado's album Law and Order came out last week, and now drummer Shaun Fleming has announced that he will be releasing an album under the strange moniker "Diane Coffee."

Preceded by "Hymn," "Tale of a Dead Dog" is the second single from Diane Coffee's upcoming album, entitled My Friend Fish (out October 29 on Western Vinyl). No word yet on whether this album will be animal-themed, but so far it seems promising.

Fans of Foxygen's more laid-back strains of psychedelia will rejoice at the ambling pace of "Tale of a Dead Dog," which begins with humble acoustic picking, only to expand into a widescreen frame of sun-flecked harmonies, reverb, and tape-recorded warmth. Though the titular canine is reportedly deceased, and the season is all but officially over, this song would be a perfect soundtrack to the "dog days of summer."
