New Orleans metal supergroup Down have just released "We Knew Him Well," a brutally sludgy cut from their upcoming EP, Down IV - Part Two. The current line-up of the band features Pantera's Phil Anselmo on vocals, Corrosion of Conformity's Pepper Keenan on guitar, guitarist Bobby Landgraf, and former Crowbar and Eyehategod cohorts Pat Bruders and Jimmy Bower on bass and drums, respectively.

The ghoulish track is equal parts sloppy and sludgy, with chunky riffs and guttural vocals. The slowed down rhythm is chilled out enough to qualify as stoner rock, but the raw vocal edge keeps the song's energy high. Following a heavy breakdown, the minute-long outro is marked by a slow, droning chant sung by phantoms backed by killer wailing guitars. Fittingly, some of the riffs are actually reminiscent of Pantera's "Cemetery Gates." Check out the track above.

Down IV - Part Two is a follow-up to 2012's Down IV Part I – The Purple EP. It will be out May 13th, 2014 via the band's own Down Records.
