"Ooh La La La" - Raewkon [Lyrics + SoundCloud Audio Stream] | Zumic

Raekwon is back with "Ooh La La La," the Chef's fourth installment of his weekly #TBT series. After reworking the Isley Brother's "Footsteps in the Dark" last week, Rae raps over the late Teena Marie's 1988 hit, "Ooh La La La." Like "Footsteps in the Dark," which was sampled by Ice Cube for his classic "Today Was a Good Day," "Ooh La La La" was previously sampled on a big hip hop song. "Na Na" by Trey Songz, a song still getting a lot of radio play, draws from Marie's number one R&B hit, which came off of her eighth album, Naked to the World.

The format that Raekwon uses on "Ooh La La La" is much like the one he used to make "Footsteps in the Dark." Both songs open up with a wide-ranging verse, full of imagery describing extravagant adventures. On both songs, Raekwon's verse is followed by the chorus from the respective original song, which is kept intact. The result in both cases is some groovy music that brings back memories of not only golden age of hip hop, but also a really great era of R&B.

For the first week of his #TBT series, Raekwon the Chef released a remix of Rose Royce’s ’70s disco hit “Wishing on a Star.” The second week was a reworking of Horace Brown’s 1996 “Trippin,” titled “Stop Trippin." The Throwback Thursday series is in anticipation to Raekwon’s upcoming album, F.I.L.A. (Fly INTERNATIONAL Luxurious Art), which will hit stores September 16th. It will be the Wu-Tang Clan emcee's first album in more than three years.
