Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have released a new album of classic blues covers titled Blue & Lonesome through Polydor Records. The LP contains 12 tracks covering 42 minutes, and was recorded in just five days at British Grove Studios. This is their first studio album since 2005’s A Bigger Bang.

Personnel includes The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals, harmonica), Keith Richards (guitar), Ronnie Wood (guitar), and Charlie Watts (drums), as well as Chuck Leavell (keyboards), Matt Clifford (keyboards), Darryl Jones (bass), and Jim Keltner (percussion). Eric Clapton is a featured guest on the songs "Everybody Knows About My Good Thing" and "I Can't Quit You Baby."

Blue & Lonesome finds the band returning to the style of raw, gritty, upbeat and stripped-down blues music that has always been the soul of the band. This brings the band back to their early career, when they cut their teeth by covering American blues musicians. Some of the more notable songwriters the band covers here are Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon, Memphis Slim, and Little Walter.

Keith Richards shared some insight about the album in an interview with Vanity Fair:

It certainly wasn’t planned... We just ran through some blues numbers to get the sound in the studio... but the more we listened to the stuff, we realized we had to obey orders... it all happened by itself.

Songs we like are "Just Your Fool," "Ride 'Em On Down," "Hate To See You Go," "Blue And Lonesome," "All Of Your Love," and "I Can't Quit You Baby."

Blue & Lonesome is currently available on Amazon. You can also stream the full album for free above, via Spotify.
