From the city of New Orleans, Trombone Shorty is one of the rare artists who can cross over from the traditional jazz world to the pop / rock world with his R&B / funk sensibilities. This performance of "Fire & Brimstone" from his latest album, Say That To Say This, on The Arsenio Hall Show proves what a dynamic performer he truly is.

Things start with a heavy groove laid down by Shorty's backing band, known as Orleans Avenue. The rhythm section holds it down really nicely, with drums, bass, and guitar perfectly locked in. Side horn players and backup singers give weight to the music as Trombone Shorty sings the gritty tune. Then he picks up his trombone at about 2:30 and lays down a jaw-dropping lead part. It's amazing that this is a live take, because the whole band sounds so polished and flawless.
