Yesterday, The Weeknd, SZA, and Travis Scott came together to deliver "Power Is Power" — a song that can be described as nothing short of amazing. The song is part of a Game of Thrones-inspired album, For The Throne, set to be released on April 26. Listen and watch the lyric video above.
Over a spacey, percussion-driven beat, The Weeknd and SZA showcase their talents with haunting vocals accompanied by a solid verse from one of hip-hop's finest in Travis Scott. It all mixes into a cinematic experience that could also be a hit in the club.
Fitting the Game of Thrones theme, "Power Is Power" is an ode to the Iron Throne, referencing a line delivered by Cersei Lannister in the second season of the show. The Weeknd uses his words to express his undying will, with lines like "A knife in my heart, couldn't slow me down / Cause' power is power, the fire never goes out." SZA inserts herself by demonstrating her weakness and how it at one point got the best of her but follows up with "Heavy is the crown, but never for a queen." Travis gives us the perspective of what it is like to be a "Monster with a crown." Overall these musicians do an incredible job applying powerful lyrics to a song that goes far beyond Game of Thrones.
So far, two other songs have been released from For the Throne, "Kingdom of One" by Maren Morris and "Nightshade" by The Lumineers. Each of these songs is available on all streaming platforms. Pick up the full album on Amazon
