A lot has changed since Alabamian Jason Isbell's last LP, mainly his getting (and staying) sober and marrying singer/fiddler Amanda Shires. As such, Southeastern (Out June 10th) is filled with introspective songs about the challenges he has faced reaching these new milestones in his personal life and what lead him down the road to sobriety. As always, Isbell's songs are deftly filled with wit and cleverness, as much as they are heartbreakingly honest tales of people trying to overcome life's obstacles in spite of themselves. "Heartfelt" doesn't really do these songs justice.

Isbell is one of America's best and most consistent singer songwriters, from his work with Athens, GA's Drive-By Truckers to his solo records to his work with The 400 Unit, he never disappoints. This honest and touching collection of songs only furthers his reputation and is not to be missed folks, don't sleep on Mr. Isbell y'all.
