Beck stopped by Ellen yesterday to perform "Blue Moon" off of his new album, Morning Phase, out now through Capitol Records.

The performance marks the first time Beck has played for a daytime television audience. His recent performances have been a little intense, which is a far cry from his slacker-rap days. However, the crowd seemed to welcome the alternative rocker after Ellen introduced him as "one of the most respected musicians of his generation" and described Morning Phase as "incredible." The song begins with the drummer pounding a tribal beat, accompanied by a lead riff played on a mandolin. On the chorus, Beck belts out, "Please don't leave me on my own." The acoustic instruments and minimal drumbeat add to the song's loneliness. Watch the video above.
