Nashville punks Diarrhea Planet are going to release a new EP, Aliens In The Outfield, November 18th via Infinity Cat Recordings. Today they released "Heat Wave," the second single from the record, which you can listen to above.

Diarrhea Planet features a four guitar attack and it is fully on display here. The song begins with full-force guitar blaring and pounding drums, before taking a quieter approach for the second verse, which highlights the sincerity of singer Jordan Smith's lyrics. The tune returns to the guitar onslaught at the end with a mind-boggling guitar solo. "Heat Wave" is made for crowd surfing and will fit in perfectly at one of the band's fantastic live shows.

Smith talked to Guitar World about the meaning of the song:

The first half of the song is about the first time we crowd-surfed one of my best friends in college, and how exciting it was to see her up there getting tossed around by the crowd. The second half is about a close friend of mine who passed away and was known for crowd-surfing a lot at shows in Nashville. The quiet part of the song is basically me saying everything I wished I could have said to him before he died and didn't get a chance to say.

It's me apologizing for being distant and unable to share my thoughts and feelings with him when I should have been opening up to him and being a better friend, and how I'd give anything to have him back crowd-surfing with me

The music video for the first single off Aliens In The Outfield, "Platinum Girls," is available right here on Zumic. You can buy "Heat Wave" at the Infinity Cat store.
