British singer-songwriter Sam Smith has shared a powerful video for his song "Lay Me Down," which deals with the topic of gay marriage. Watch it above via Sam Smith's YouTube channel.

Directed by Ryan Hope, the video sees Sam Smith in a church in what appears to be a funeral gathering for someone that was close to his heart. The scene smoothly shifts to a happier time, and we see Sam getting married to his significant other. At the end, Sam is seen sitting alone in a pew lost in thought. The video's message of human equality is subtle, yet strong enough to get its point across.

On his Facebook page, Sam Smith said that he and Ryan decided to make a statement and showcase something they passionately believe in:

This song holds a very dear place in my heart. With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in. This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country. I hope you enjoy it. I love you all x.
