GZA and Tom Morello took their latest single, "The Mexican," to The Tonight Show last night. Joined by The Roots, the performance made the case that rap-rock isn't always such a bad idea after all.
At almost 50 years old, GZA has a voice that hasn't aged a whole lot since his easy-paced flow made him an elite MC on Wu-Tang's early LPs. The song proves to be an absorbing tale as he raps about a Mexican gangster named Fernandez. Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against The Machine and Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, supplies his own take on Babe Ruth's latin-tinged '72 original of the same name.
