The BBC Sound of 2014 longlist has been announced. The list contains 15 acts expected to make huge waves in the music world in the coming year. It's compiled by 170 music bloggers, DJs, critics, and broadcasters who nominate three acts each.

BBC Sound of 2014 Official Longlist:

Banks
Chance The Rapper
Chloe Howl
Ella Eyre
FKA twigs
George Ezra
Jungle
Kelela
Luke Sital-Singh
MNEK
Nick Mulvey
Royal Blood
Sam Smith
Sampha
Say Lou Lou

The list includes Chicago native Chance The Rapper, who recently appeared on the remix of James Blake's "Life Round Here." Ella Eyre and MNEK were featured on Rudimental's debut album Home. Singer Kelela released the mixtape Cut 4 Me in October. Sam Smith, the vocalist on "Latch" by Disclosure, recently collaborated with the electronic duo and Nile Rodgers. Los Angeles-based R&B singer Banks just finished touring with The Weekend.

The artists featured are from a variety of genres. There's the psychedelic pop of Jungle, folk-pop from George Ezra, alternative rock band Royal Blood, and electronic producer Sampha.

Although most of the acts are British, there are some notable Americans who have been in the top 5. Perhaps you've heard of last year's winner, Haim. The indie rock trio of sisters was joined by Angel Haze in the number three spot. In 2012, Azealia Banks, Frank Ocean, and Skrillex rounded out the top four, with A$AP Rocky on the longlist. Past winners include 50 Cent in 2003, which was the first year of the list, Adele in 2008, and Ellie Goulding in 2010.

The top 5 acts will be revealed the week of January 6, with the number one act announced on Friday, January 10. Keep an eye on Zumic for the winners and watch the video above for tracks from the nominated artists.
