Since its first year in 2002, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival has been a cultural phenomenon. Bringing together a wide range of artists from around the world, Bonnaroo has encouraged rare on-stage collaborations and the annual Superjam of unexpected artists coming together for once-in-a-lifetime sets.
This year, the festival's music lineup features over 150 performances from Wednesday through Sunday. The headlining acts include jamband veterans Phish, who are performing two sets during the weekend, indie-rock acts like Hozier, Courtney Barnett, and The National, and folk-rock acts including The Avett Brothers and The Lumineers. Staying current, the festival has embraced the hottest rap artists in the world, which this year includes Childish Gambino, Cardi B, Post Malone, Brockhampton, and Gucci Mane.
Just 63 miles from Nashville, the list of country and folk artists alone would be enough for an incredible festival: Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, John Prine, Maren Morris, and a Grand Ole Opry showcase featuring Old Crow Medicine Show, Steve Earle, Morgan Evans, Ashley Monroe, Wendy Moten, Ricky Skaggs, the Opry Square Dancers, and more.
Throw in electronic artists like ODESZA and GRiZ, and R&B stars like Solange, and this festival truly has something for anyone who loves music. Be sure to check out the full schedule on the Bonnaroo website and the updated festival grounds map, to plan your trip ahead of time.
If you're looking for some cool sets that might fly slightly under the radar, here at Zumic we reviewed the lineup and the artists we recommend seeing — in addition to those listed above — are: All Them Witches, Caroline Rose, Peach Pit, Beach House, Parquet Courts, Rival Sons, Jim James, Los Colognes, Cherry Glazerr, Joe Russo's Almost Dead, Shovels & Rope, The Record Company, Mac Demarco, Trampled By Turtles, The Wood Brothers, Bombino, and The Soul Rebels.
