This week a new supergroup consisting of megastar guitar players Stephen Stills and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, along with keyboardist Barry Goldberg (The Electric Flag), Shepherd's drummer Chris Layton (also well known for his work with Stevie Ray Vaughan), Stills' bassist Kevin McCormick, and Jerry Harrison (keyboardist of The Talking Heads) doing production.

The story goes that Stills and Shepherd first played together during a 2007 Super Bowl jam session hosted by Colts owner Jim Irsay, and were inspired by Stephen Stills' 1968 Super Session album with Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield to do their own all-star album.

The covers all sound great, but the original songs are what make this record an instant classic. Cover songs include blues classics like "Honey Bee" by Muddy Waters and "Talk To Me Baby" by Elmore James / Willie Dixon, as well as more edgy rock tunes like "Search and Destroy" by Iggy Pop & The Stooges and "Rockin' In The Free World" by Neil Young.

If you like blues-rock music with gritty guitar licks, swingin' drums, and great songwriting, then you will probably like this album.

For more information about the album and the band, check out the 429 Records Press Release which includes a cool bio of the band and a track-by-track description of how each song came about.

Stephen Stills said that the time he spent with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Barry Goldberg working on the album was "really magical... one of the best times I've had in my music career."
