Deer Tick and The Hold Steady have just embarked on a tour together, and additionally, they've shared covers of each other's songs.
The Hold Steady took "Easy" from Deer Tick's Born on Flag Day, and Deer Tick responded by covering "Constructive Summer." The cover is a loyal rendition of the Stay Positive track, although very distinctly Deer Tick. The sound is more spaced out, a bit slower, and has the band's unique lo-fi air about it.
Guitarist Ian O’Neil talked to The AV Club about the tune:
“ Craig Finn can bring you right back to the time in your life when partying went hand in hand with ambition. ‘Constructive Summer’ reminds me how rock and roll’s simplicity gives power to heart instead [of] intellectualism.”
