Today, Black Hippy's own Ab-Soul released his newest album following 2012's Control System. You can stream These Days... above via Spotify and download it on iTunes.
These Days... opens smoothly with "God's Reign," as New Jersey native and Soul's label mate SZA sings soulfully on the chorus. Many of the tracks on this album take the same mellow route, including "Tree of Life," "Nevermind That," the gloomy "Closure," and the trippy "Ride Slow." There's also my favorite one, "Feelin' Us," a relaxed song about Soul's rise to fame with lines like, "Man this shit pays hanging in the house of fame / Now we sipping champagne on the mother fucking plane / 'Cause they feeling us, they feeling us." These Days... isn't only chill songs, though. Songs like "Twact" and "Hunnid Stax" are easy to jam out to.
Of course, the album features appearances from Soul's fellow Black Hippy members Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and ScHoolboy Q. Most notable, though, is Lamar who goes completely off over a hectic jazz tune on "Kendrick Lamar's Interlude." The album also features contributions from the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross, Mac Miller and more. J. Cole even stepped in to produce the sultry track "Sapiosexual." While the original album on iTunes ends with 23 minutes of rhymes from Soul and JMSN on "W.R.O.H.", the leaked version features three extra songs, including the 2 minute title track and the smooth instrumentals for "Nevermind That."
