Statik Selektah's seventh studio album, appropriately titled Lucky 7, is finally here.
Since getting a promising preview with the singles, "Beautiful Life," "Top Tier," "All You Need," and "In The Wind," we've been anticipating what other jams Lucky 7 would deliver.
Statik is a Boston native producer who has been acclaimed for his ability to craft the '90s East Coast hip hop sound. For the most part, the tracks on the album are soulful and have a jazzy boom-bap beat. "Murder Game" and "Gentleman" stand out as two of the heaviest bangers on the record.
On previous studio albums like 2014's What Goes Around and 2013's Extended Play, the long and strong list of artists are fitted perfectly to each instrumental. Artists that are no stranger to Statik Selektah's albums return to drop bars on Lucky 7, namely Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson, Sean Price, Ea$y Money, Bun B, Cj Fly, Talib Kweli, Styles P, JFK, Jared Evan, and Royce Da 5'9".
Other features include a younger crop of mic rockers: Your Old Droog, Big K.R.I.T., Hannibal Buress, A$AP Twelvyy, Domo Genesis, Mick Jenkins, Rapsody, Chaucy Sherod, Dave East, Smif-n-Wessun, Young M.a., Buckshot, Bodega Bamz, *takes breath*, Illa Ghee, Fame of M.O.P., Sky Zoo, Masspike Miles, Lord Sear, Kirk Knight, Wais P, Cane, and Elle Varner.
Each track out of 21 is unique to the artists featured. At 69 minutes, it can be a lot to take in at once. The beats and the production are so good that you'll want to listen to this over and over again, even if some of the verses are forgettable.
