Previously, CHVRCHES have covered The Artic Monkeys' "Do I Wanna Know?" and Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead." Now, they're continuing the trend by taking on Lorde's "Team" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. It's refreshing to hear appreciation of a song by the 17-year-old New Zealander that isn't "Royals." Watch performance above.
Lorde's original track is stripped down, consisting of only a simple beat and a straightforward synth line. CHVRCHES' version is a lot more colorful than the original, adding an '80s style drum machine, making it easier to dance to. The original first few lines of the song are completely omitted, with the band beginning at the "send the call out" loop. Frontwoman Lauren Mayberry's voice is a lot softer than Lorde's, giving the song a much different feel. Although Lorde sings on the chorus, "we live cities you'll never seen on screen," CHVRCHES' native city Glasgow can be seen on screen very often.
